Page 1 of Argos clearance 75% *OFF* loads of items, starts Fri Oct 8

This post will be a bit short on detail as I don`t know item codes etc but it`s just intended as a heads-up for opportunistic bargain hunters.

A friend of mine works in Argos and tipped me off about their clearance sale which starts today (FRIDAY) in stores across Northern Ireland and probably throughout the UK.

A huge selection of stock has been reduced and as I understand it, the sale items all have 75 per cent off the original price.

I got my friend to reserve me a Sony DV camcorder for £150 (was £600), a 15" LCD TV for £80 (was £320), a Panasonic in-car CD/MP3/radio head unit for £40 (was £160) and an unheard-of brand 14" or 15" (I can`t remember but I`ve reserved one anyway) TFT monitor for £45. I will be trekking around counties Down and Antrim later to pick these reserved items up from three different stores. I`m not listing these to gloat (as I still can`t quite believe it will all go as planned in the morning anyway), but rather, to give people an idea of what`s on offer.

Obviously, different stores will have different items and quantites thereof, depending on pre-sale stock levels and how many items have been set aside by staff for themselves and their lucky and very grateful friends like me, so don`t get your hopes up too much.

I figure that even if some of the staff in the stores I go to ignore the `reserved` notes on some of these goods and I only get one of the four items I am hoping for, I will still have saved a fair bit so I won`t be too disappointed.

I will post the item codes after I pick up my goods - at the moment, all I have are the reservation codes for what I`ve got set aside.

I searched on the Argos website for "15 inch TV" etc and the one I`ve reserved doesn`t come up in the results, so I think what they`ve done is either made the sale in-store only or possibly deleted the item descriptions from the site`s search engine but left the listings there for anyone who searches by item code. We will all know better in a matter of hours, either when I post the item codes for what I buy or if any Argos insiders can post a list.

I`m afraid that`s all the info I had, as I just got a quick look at the sale list and couldn`t copy it or note down item numbers, as I was very pushed for time.

I think what the various stores will do is put these items out in a clearance area of the store or possibly put a list on show somewhere. God knows how few items will be left by this time tomorrow but I hope some of you get a bargain.

Big thanks for this. Just reserved a Sony & a JVC camcorder (one for me & one for my Dad before I`m accused of profiteering ;) ) for £137 each!! Going to pick them up in a few minutes.

Any comments as to which one I should keep? Don`t know model nos/specs at the moment....

EDIT - Just found my Mum`s old Argos book - it would appear that they are going to be:

JVC GRDX95 - 16 x Optical Zoom, 3" LCD Screen (originally £589.99)
Sony DCRTRV19 - 10 x Optical Zoom, 2" LCD Screen (originally (£549.99)
Going on paper, it would appear that the JVC would be the best????

Am I the only one having problems getting on the site?

Not having problems getting onto the site but pages are loading slower than usual.

Can`t see any form of bargains on the site. Does anyone have any specific items to search for?

The codes from the old brochure (for the aforementioned camcorders) are not valid on Argos`s website. When I called them they had to go and look at a list of clearance stock.

It looks like most stock is not on the website although I`ve just reserved a 14" tft monitor for £42.50 and there looks like a bargain HP photoprinter reduced from £140 to £37.50.

Just picked up a TFT Monitor from the Catford branch for 42.50.

Does anyone have the code for the LCD TV?

Haven`t managed to get the code...but apparently they`re all gon :(

I just rang and tried to order one of these tft baby`s but they said it`s a pricing mistake ...... :( gutted !!
