I`m not sure if this is Nationwide but I assume it is.... In my local WHSmith they had the DAB digital Pure Evoke-1 radio for £49.99.

I like mine but if you haven`t got one you may be interested in this review I just found..

Having recently purchased this radio from Argos for £45 would have to completely disagree with the review. Seems like this bloke has a major grudge against DAB in general. I very pleased with mine, the sound is excellent (to my untrained ear), took all of 30secs to tune in and lets me listen to Planet Rock, Kerrang and 6music which I would not with an analogue radio. Can also plug it into main stereo if required. Only gripe I had was it`s mains only cos I was gonna stick it in the bathroom. But now it`s found a place on my bedside unit so I can fall asleep to the Stairway to Heaven which is on Planet Rock almost every day.

Rocky..

2/10 lol what a laughable review.i have a pure evoke eldgar and have it hooked up to my amp and the sound is absolutely superb.having tried ministry of sound and other very poor attempts at DAB pure evoke is a massive breath of fresh air imho.

I only included the review as an alternate point of view - as almost all the other reviews on the site are very positive. I must admit that I didn`t understand how DAB worked and was surprised that I had to turn the radio round to get a signal for some of the programs.... which isn`t that handy as the controls are not easily accessible then! The best bit has got to be being able to flick through the names of the stations to find one you want rather than running up and down the frequencies.

the thing about digital radio is you either have good reception, or rubbish... not much in between. So I guess he was in an area with lots of interfering objects.
IMHO the sound quality isn`t much better, but there are a lot more stations... depends what you want.

That`s not a review. It`s the opinion of an uninformed twat.

DAB is great & will get better still in time. Many channels you can`t get anywhere else. The Evoke one will out perform most FM radio`s for sound.

well i still stick by my experience, i was unimpressed when i looked at Evoke/DAB in Comet, the signal i got was poor, i had as the above person already stated had to turn the radio around... the fact that it was in a large `electrical out of town shed` may have effetced the quality, i know from having used two radios that these type of buildings are particularly prone to causing problems...

I would not suggest however that all DAB are bad, as with all things technology improves all the time, and as it was july last year i tested when looking to buy a new radio, i am in no way an expert currently! :)

My 2 pence worth. I use one in a good signal area and it dose what I want it to do. Noise in the kitchen when cooking. I can now hear what is being said on Talk sport and 5 live. Stations I can not get on FM.

If I want Hi-Fi quality sound, I put on my Hi-Fi.

All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

I bought my Evoke 1 last January. I live in the Bournemouth area & not only pick up all the stations in our area perfectly clear but many from Southampton. I took it to Minehead (Butlins) last march again I had loads of local ststions & tons of stations from South Wales PERFECTLY CLEAR. I also took it to Barry (Nr Cardiff) & again loads & loads of channels some only on DAB. My next car radio will be a DAB unit.

I`ll second this quote "If I want Hi-Fi quality sound, I put on my Hi-Fi."
