RE: Cello DVD recorder £49.99 in Co-op

Glad to hear it works OK. Have you tried the 6 hour SLP mode yet, it`s surprisingly good IMO?

One little quirk I have noticed as that the automatic scart switching signal to select the correct TV AV input appears to on permenantly whenever the unit is switched on rather than just a transient when first brought out of standby. It means I have to set it to standby or switch inputs manually on the TV if I want to change over to my PVR which is on the other TV Scart input.

I have not had any significant problems apart from difficulty understanding the manual. It is not very clear and gives little detail on some of the features.

One thing to look out for is inadvertent operation of the PAL/NTSC and P/I (Progressive Scan/Interlaced) buttons on the remote control. I suspect that some users have been led to believe their units are faulty when in fact these buttons have been used incorrectly. The manual is unclear on these issues.

No discs supplied. They do supply a Scart lead but you will need another one if you want to connect it to your Sky+ box (unless you use one of the other inputs).

I have a PVR so will not be using it a lot. It`s certainly not a Pioneer or a Panasonic but I have found it works OK apart from the annoying "Cello" flash screen which makes reading the recorded programme data on the "Title" (Index) screen almost impossible to read. No Great problem if are only recording one or two items per disc for archiving but I would find that a real pain if I was using it as my main TV recording machine.

By the way if you have seen Specs purported to be for this machine which say it has a DV input then the Co-Op machine does NOT have this.

I will certainly be interested to know how you get on. This thread and others in other fora appear to be very quiet now.

You should have no problem in doing that. Connect one of the Scart outputs from your Sky+ box to the "Input" Scart of the DVD Recorder. Select the "Scart" input on the Recorder using the AV button and then set to record. You may want to adjust the video output of the Sky+ box to match the CVBS input of the Recorder. Altenatively you can use the S-Video or Composite input connectors on the Recorder.

Hi, have you found any way of getting rid of the "splash" screen from the "index" page? It makes the text for eacb recording virtually un-readable.

RE: Samsung DVD-R100E

Sorry I can`t help with your problem but as you have this recorder could you answer the following query please. The recoder has a Timeslip feature which I would have expected would allow you to watch a full screen view view of a recording while still continuing to record the rest of a TV programme. This is my understanding of what Timeslip means and is a unique feature of RAM recorders. However, on this recorder it appears that the current recording can only be viewed in the Picture In Picture image which is useless for normal viewing. Can you confirm this or otherwise please.

I did ring Samsung and the guy there did think that the recording was only available in PIP but I got the impression he was un-sure and was getting the info from the manual as I was.

Thanks

Colin
