RE: Are Three (the mobile network) any good?
I think they only use O2 when its out of the range of their 3G masts. Last week whilst staying near Lewes I had a 3G sinal from 3 and my wife on O2 didn`t get a signal. She`s now changed to 3.
Never had a bad experience with 3 in nearly 4 years.

RE: UK holiday `spread` is a mess
We should have more Bank Holidays and as you rightly say they should be more spaced out. A few years ago Trafalger Day (October 21st) was mooted as an extra holiday. I don`t think we could move Good Friday though. It`s the most religious day in the Christian Calendar! and the only bank holiday at the start of a weekend :)

I`ve read people on here talkiing about `englishness` or `britishness`. Could someone please explain what that means. How can we say to immigrants and refugees that they should act more english/british if we don`t know what it is.
To me `Englishness` was a sense of fair play, having repect for other peoples beliefs (be they religious or otherwise). it appears from the mail and express etc that englishness is being biggoted, it appears that it is one rule for `us` and another for anyone else.

Why should people with asian origins not support the team of the ancestry. In the dim distance past my family had origins in Ireland and like most people with irish blood still support their football teams. When i moved to Newcastle no-one said i had to start supporting Newcastle United. Why should country support be any different? During the World cup, teenagers with asian parentage proudly wore the cross of st george.

Actually liked the storylines as well which is rare for me. Glad its finishing though. Third series and beyond tend to be pants.

Using videodownloader with firefox will allow you to capture a stream. You`ll have to go www.dailymotion.com and search for the author(qwerty77) to find out the full list of episodes, don`t search for the video or it won`t work.
Of course no one would do this as it probably wuld be illegal ;) :o

RE: What books are you reading now, if any?
Reading Seven Natural Wonders, a reasonable no-brainer romp rather in the style of Indiana Jones. Things can only get better by John O`Farrell - 18 years of misery of being a labour supporter - Its a book that`s really close to my heart and an absolutly funny read.
For work I`m reading The Year the Gypsies Came by Linzi Glass, Just in Case by Meg Rossof - both books are really childrens books but are good adult reads as well. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is also a really great read. It tells the life at Aushwitz through the eyes of the commandants 9 year old son. Brilliant

Channel 4 can afford to be a little more creative in their programming as they get a share of the advertising income from ITv, but I agree with your choices, however I wouldn`t particualy call them comedies (except Black Books), more comedy drama.

Have to say, I agree that this is a huge hike up of the BBC fees.
However would we like a BBC that had paid for adverts (unlike the irritating BBC adverts we have now!) Would we be happy for the BBC to become a comercial channel with all that that entails? Commercial channels have to be accountable to shareholders and so put on shows to bring on advertising revenue. Comedies like the Offfice, League of Gentlemen etc would never have come from a commercial channel because they are percieved as risky investments. When did we last have a decent british comedy that wasn`t from the BBC?
On the other hand BBC`s programming seems to be heading commercial with a diet of soaps, soaps mascarading as dramas, make over shows, chat shows and quizzes.

Had this happen to me. The engineer replaced the motherborad and power supply as well as replacing the processor as well as fan. In the end he thought it was possibly down to overheating. Nearly replaced the entire computer before he deceided this! Still it was under warrenty. Funnily enough I thought it was graphics related at first as it crashed out when it was playing games.
It`s behaved itself since - now I`ve done it bet it won`t work tonight :/

pretty sure the videodownloader extension now can save the file as an AVI. However it won`t load into WMP because its a different codec. Works fine in VLC though.

It`s amazing the prejudices people have. It seems we`ll get rid of the immigrants, then get rid of chavs, anyone earning under 20,000 - what comes next? dog owners.
We have to learn to get on with each other, like it or not we`re all now living in a global world. To lump all so called immigrants under one banner is wrong. Its a few people from ALL ethnic groups who are causing problems, not all of them. Most refugees, immigrants and british nationals don`t scrounge - they pay taxes, live honestly and never put a foot wrong.
Its a wonder anyone wants to come to live here with all the biggoted views we have.
On the issue of traditions and national identities, why shouldn`t incomers hang on to theirs? Don`t all us with Irish, Scottish, Welsh etc ancestors proud of our heritage?

What I was trying to say (obviously not clear enough) was that the morals of those who hang around in gangs and cause trouble is very different from most peoples. To them to steal is normal and acceptable. They can justify to themselves thats its Ok, just like people who justify that downloading music and films illegally, or copy DVD`s or speed. Its just where you put the boundaries.
If we want to tackle the downward spiral of crime we need to start teaching people that breaking the law is unacceptable, however small the infringement.

Not prosecuted for speeding, to be prosecuted you need to be caught speeding. However the main cause was speeding too fast around a corner. If they had come around at the normal speed though, whats the betting the accident wouldn`t have happenned?

Having witnessed a fatal accident where speed was the only explination - too fast around a corner and ploughing into a mother and child - I can safely say yes speed kills. I`ve also been to many a RTA where speed was the main cause.
The point I was trying to make however is that some laws we break because we don`t agree with them.

Speeding can and does cause loss of life. However I agree there is a difference but I used it to illustrate how we as a nation say certain laws are deemed OK to break and others are not. It all depends on your moral stance. Those who commit burgalry and theft have a different moral code to the majority of the rest of us

If there was an easy way to solve the `problem`, it would have been taken years ago. Any solution now is going to cost big money.
As someone said already, its all down to lack of respect. I work in a school and gradually over the years, the kids have got worse to deal with. Parents will all too easily take the kids side at school or blame the school for the problem.
Its not always the so called `under-class` that is at fault either. How many of us have downloaded something rather than pay for it, copied DVD`s ? How many admit to speeding ? All these things are against the law. If we`re caught speeding do we accept it? No we complain we were only a bit above the speed limit and it was safe. We in the cause of most days `stick two fingers` up at the law.
of cause its not the same as someone who nicks cars, steals from houses (or is it?).
Society has changed over the past 20-30. The greed culture of the Thatcher years is still around, we must have the latest consumables. A lot of problems are down to the legacy of the 80`s.
What`s the answer ? I don`t know, Maybe its too late ? Maybe (god forbid) a return to a ultra right government. All I know we need to do something soon.

I`ve got quite a few large mp3 files (audio books) that I want to split into sections. I`d like a program that will do this automatically every 5 minutes and free if possible. I`ve tried mp3 splitter but this sometimes makes files that can`t be read.

Tag And Rename is a program I use all the time. It`ll even search on amazon for the appropriate tags and include the cover in the tag as well.

Any book by Kim Stanley Robinson especially the Mars Trilogy. I also really enjoyed Julian May`s Pilocene Exiles saga is brilliant.
If you don`t want to risk your money on them then try your local library - its free and they can get hold of most books.

RE: Wireless networking headaches......
I`ve had awful problems trying to set up a wireless network. I can now however see each share and computer.
Basically (I think - keep forgetting) I found that when I set the WEP code up on the router, I ran Wireless networking for windows and went around all the computers with my USB stick. When I tried to connect I got `Limited Connection`. After searching I found that the wireless network utility had changed the WEP password and so I had to go round changing it back!
Don`t know if this helps. Also I found I had to set the setting on my software firewalls to allow the shares to be seen.
