RE: Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature

Hi Sue, Pat & Choagy,

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to reply to my query.
I`ve also heard from several friends over the Christmas period that Panasonic and Sony are top brands. And it does seem to worth it to spend a little bit extra to get the larger hard drive - so I`m leaning more towards the 250gb Panasonic.
But thanks again for all the helpful advice.
Cheers, and I wish you all a Happy New Year!!!

I-POD Advice

Hi,

Well I think its come to the point where I need to replace my antiquated portable cd/cassette/radio player with a new I-pod and docking station!!!

However, being a 40-ish male that can be a little impatient with learning new technology (I just hate it when I can`t get anything to work 1st time!!! lol), I am looking for something thats very user-friendly.

I`ve narrowed down to the I-pod Classic - for my big fingers!!!
Or an I-pod touch.

However, with regard to the I-pod Touch I think that it`s got a lot more functionality - but would I actually use it as I don`t play computer games and I also have a PC. But the idea of pressing a button to select thigs really appeals.

Can anyone who has been in a similiar position please advise.

I would also like some advive as to a docking statition, and some decent headphones.

Cheers.

RE: Help With TV/Sat Box/DVD Player setup

Thanks for this - but apologies!! - since I`ve just discovered that the TV is also "dropping out" & going into standby mode when connected to Satellite TV as well. The TV is a Hitachi 28" widescreen (C28W410SN) purchased from Argos approx 4 years ago. Any ideas as to what to check for. Any further advice would be appreciated. Thanx.

Woolworths - Bargain DVD Player

Woolworths have a DVD Player on offer for £49.99.
It has all usual specifications ie Dolby Digital, DTS, Scart, (scart socket included) Co-axial, Optical setup.
Also plays MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, JPEG Viewer.
Also plays VCD (films downloaded from the internet)
Nice styling, very slim. (and no, I don`t work for Woolworths)

RE: Akura ADV14S DVD player £37.49 at Kwiksave

Have just seen this in my local Somerfield Supermarket (who own KwikSave).
It looks good for the price. But does it play vcd?

RE: ((( HELP! ))) Hack needed for Aiwa XD-AX10 dvd player((((( £10 REWARD )))))

Hi. I`m thinking of purchasing this DVD player from "Macro"as it looks superb. I`ve also requested a hack - see my request of 23rd July. If you get a response could you please pass it on.

RE: Best Budget DVD Player

Tim,
Many thanks. I`m afrid I haven`t heard of a manufacturer called Kiss. Can you advise the full make/model and whre they can be bought from. Thanx,Steve.

Best Budget DVD Player

I am looking for a DVD palyer that has DTS & Optical connectivity. Also plays vcd, savd, & mp3. I also want multi-region (or hackable). Budget - up to £150.00. Can anyone advise the best player to gor for? Many thanks.

RE: Home Cinema Packages

I must admit - I`m astounded by your knowledge. The advice & reviews were superb. Have you ever thought of opening a shop??!!. Once again, many thanks for your help & guidance. Steve.

RE: Home Cinema Packages

RichardH/GSM - Brillianto!!!! Those Mission speakers really look the business - stylish & space saving. Do u know of a silver AV amp to match up (the Marantz 4200 is the best buy- but available in black only). The Boss ie the natural blonde sys everything should match up! Cheers! And once again many thanks for your help & advice.Steve.

RE: Home Cinema Packages

It`s the speakers that I need to save apace on. I`m afraid it`s only a medium sized room with 2 couches etc & space is limited. The Wharfedale speakers seemed excellent quality - but just too big - especially the front/centre speaker. Steve.

Home Cinema Packages

Hi, I`m thinking of getting a Home Cinema complete package in order to save space. I went to Currys who had Aiwa HT-DV90, LG DA-3525, Accoustic Energy AEGO P5, & a Panasonic SCHE7. Has a anyone got any experience/advice regarding current Home Cinema packages, and which one would be the "best buy"? Thanks.

RE: SurroundSound

Well folks - I`ve taken your advice and got the Marantz 4200 AV amp from RicherSounds, and ordered the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 front/centre speakers online. I`m having difficulty with the Mission77ds - would the Eltex HT-2 Bipolar be a reasonable alternative? Thanks, Steve.

RE: SurroundSound

Westy, Many thanks, Steve.

RE: SurroundSound

PS Just out of interest - what do u think of the Mordaunt-Short spaekers ?I`ve just visited RicherSounds & the Sales bod there strongly recommended tham as a complete package solution ie front/rear/sub-woofer. total cost = 500.

RE: SurroundSound

Westy, Thanks for this. I`ve just looked at http://www.rel.net and it`s clear that these are hand-made top quality products. Thanks, Steve.

RE: SurroundSound

Westy, Pardon my ignorance - but I`m new to all this - but what exactly is a "Rel" & is there an internet site that may supply details of it? Many thanks.

RE: SurroundSound

Richard,
Many thanks for all your help & advice. bullitt2

RE: SurroundSound

Westy,

Would I need a sub-woofer with this speaker setup (ie Wharfedale 8.3`s & Mission 77ds) ??

If so, which one?
Perhaps the matching 8.3 sub-woofer?

RE: SurroundSound

Westy - Thanks for such a fantastic detailed response!!! In fact thanks to everyone who has responded.I think I`m sold on the Marantz 4200 AV Amp, since this also seems to have received fave reviews in What HiFi. (is there a Yamaha equivalent to this?). Same for the Mission (rear)speakers. I`m not so sure about the Wharfedale speakers for the front though. I have no doubt that the sound quality must be the dogs bollocks - it`s just a space problem. Are there any equivalent sound quality speakers - but a little smaller?

RE: SurroundSound

Richard H. This response is absolutely fantastic!!!! And I`m very grateful for the time & trouble you`ve gone to for such a detailed comprehensive response!!! It`s just brilliant!
I too have previously gone to RicherSounds for my HiFi & dvd player, since I`ve always found their staff to be very knowledgable and helpful. I know it`s asking a lot to want a good HomeCinema system and one the will play music cd`s ok as welI - but my living room space is limited. However, my budget is actually around 250-300 pounds (the pound key on my keyboard isn`t working hence calling it "pounds" instead of the usual pound sign!) for the AV Amp plus about the same for the 5 speakers making this around 500-600 pounds altogether.
I know this is asking a lot - but could I possibly pleaseask you to suggest separates based on this budget????? Your input/advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Bullitt2

SurroundSound

Help - I`m new to all this. I want to purchase a good HomeCinema system - either an all in package, or separates - that will produce a HomeCinema for dvd`s AND a good quality system for music cd`s. I`m thinking of either a complete package such as the Panasonic SCHT75 (Costco Price = 329 inc vat)(PS Is this hackable?) or buying separates to go with my existing dvd player (LG DVD-3200E). I went to RicherSounds who suggested a Panasonic SAHE9 AV amp (250 Pounds sterling) together with Mordaunt Short speakers. (500 GPB).However, this 5 speaker package worked out at 500 Pound sterling - which was a bit above my speaker budget of 250 pounds!!!!! Any advice would be appreciated. (Total budget = around 500-600). Many thanks.
