Try this.
1. Put tv in dvd mode and wait until "NO DISC" is displayed.
2. Press "RETURN" button on remote.
3. Press "7" then "7" then "PLAY" then "ENTER".
4. Something like this should appear.

MPEG Version : 0311~~~~~~~
Servo Version : 0303~~~~~~~
Code Version : 3. 1. 6. 5
Region Code : 1

SVCD`s, pop the disc in, not a lot happens, then press play, a message on screen appears (vcd blah,blah,blah "menu") press menu button the play, should play now.

There seems to be "2" versions of this hack, 1:- play/pause & ffwd, & 2:- ffwd & reverse. I have found the later version causes the screen to go blue, giving the message "RESET OK", and other bits. If this happens just press the satndby button, switch back on and do the standard "subtitle", "repeat", "3,8,7,6,7,9, "open", close" JOB DONE!!!

The machine is made by FUNAI, I think it is going to be a software (DISC) upgrade, same as the DVP325e.

Use the posted hack, it won`t do any harm, it can always be returned to it`s original state by pressing and holding (for a few seconds) the Play and Stop buttons on the front of the machine, a message will display on the front, and it will be back to square one. As for the sound, not bad for an all in one box solution.

AAAGGGHHH!!!!!! It`s the same as the Hitachi DVP-325, sorry I can`t help at the moment, but it helps me. I`ll post as soon as I find an answer, or if you read someone has jumped off a motorway bridge, that`s me. I SHALL RETURN!!!!!

Switch the player on, wait until no disc displays, press (on the remote) 1,2,3,4,Display, in that order. Let me know if anything comes up on the tv screen, i.e. firmware version etc,.

Open the drive tray, press the Volume Up button on your remote control & press the Fast Forward button on your remote control at the same time, the on screen display will show 321 followed by the current region code, press the Volume Up button on your remote control while pressing the Fast Forward button on your remote control, repeat this until your desired region code is shown on the display, press and hold the Angle button on your remote control for approximately five seconds to select the region.This disabled the macro on my machine.

Once you get the "SELECT A LANGUAGE" screen appear by holding FF & REW, select the language you want, wait until no disc appears, then using the remote control press:- subtitle, repeat, 3,8,7,6,7, 9,open,standby. That`s it.

Don`t think I ignored you, but I don`t know that much about the R1 version. I think it should be alright, you use the ntsc system don`t you??

I think,(rarely) that if you want to play:- cdg,ld,ab,ghty jam sandwiches and what ever else the formats you were babling on about, then get a PC, and the right software. These machines are really designed for one thing, DVD`S, all the rest is just pot luck.

I think it is about time we all thanked the DVD reviewer team. We all use this site to find answers and to post questions & answers, but without these guys & this site, you lot out there would have a harder time watching what you want on "YOUR`E" player. So lets hear it for DVD reviewer.

Macro, short for Macrovision, it stops you recording films from video to video, or, DVD to video, or what ever, by sticking an interupting signal on the film you are trying to record (WHICH YOU SHOULDN`T) if you read the FBI etc,. warnings. It`s just copy protection, like software,etc,. But you only need to worry about it if:- A, you are a cheep skate & copying your mates films, or B, trying to make money!!
