Review for WWE Money in the Bank 2023

    8 / 10

After the success of Clash at the Castle we all waited with bated breath for the announcement of a major PPV in the UK. We all expected one of the major four (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam or Survivor Series), but instead we got Money in the Bank, which was still a pretty good get for the UK. Hosted in the O2 Arena, it was one of the most successful events in

The two Money in the Banks are fantastic and though I am ok with the winner of each I think the two were the strongest line-ups for the matches in a long time. Lots of great action from everyone involved and every single person looked like they could win. This is the sign of a great match.

Gunther against Riddle for the Intercontinental Championship was a little disappointing considering how great Gunther has been over the last year with his matches. This match was just too short to mean anything and could have been much better. Same for Women’s Tag Championship match between Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. To be fair the match’s only highlight was the end which was shocking.

Dominik Mysterio against Cody Rhodes was fine, and I have been really enjoying how great Dominik is getting in the ring and he was able to hold his own against Cody. The match which I thought would have been Match of the Night between Seth Rollins and Finn Balor was enjoyable, but just wasn’t as good as I expected to be.

The match of the night was clearly the main event between Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa against The Usos. This feud and build up made this match so special and I enjoyed every single second from beginning to end. If there was ever a way to end a PPV it would be this and I felt so satisfied by the end.

Special Features are very disappointing and if there was ever a time for WWE to release a two-disk set it would be this one. This could have been filled with older UK matches or just lots of promos and interviews regarding the event, but not to be.

Smackdown match between Sheamus and Solo Sikoa which could have literally been cut to the end. A fine match, but nothing special to warrant including it. A Smackdown confrontation between Roman/Solo and the Usos was good at showing Usos as a credible threat to Roman and planting suspicion within the group as a whole was great.
The full Kickoff show (which they haven’t included on releases for a while) was a great way to hype up the feud and the event in general. I would recommend that WWE always include this on future releases.

Also includes is the post event Press Conference which interviewed Cody Rhodes, the two Money in the Bank winners, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, Seth Rollins, Triple H. This is fine, but this “trying to be real” never worked for me. It is a shame that they do not include anything from the announcement or build-up of the show which considering its success it truly deserved.

Money in the Bank 2023 is a great event with some fantastic matches and a perfect main event. If this is an annual thing in the UK it would be great, but hopefully the sheer success of the event will mean that bigger and better things will be in store for us next year. A great PPV to rewatch.
