Review of South Park Volume 6

    7 / 10

    Introduction

Another four episodes are found on Volume 6, episodes 10-13 of the second series of South Park. The high quality of the second series episodes is continued.

    Video

As with all of the other discs, another reasonable 4:3 transfer, not perfection, but there aren`t that many problems with it. Still a few compression artefacts on show, perhaps due to the continued use of a DVD-5. Given the simplicity of the animation, it`s reasonable to expect a little more quality.

    Audio

As with the first series, a DD2.0 stereo track, perfectly adequate for the job. Again, like the first series, the French audio track is included, with different voices for the characters.

    Features

Oh dear, this is where the discs let themselves down. Gone are the introductions to each episode by creators Matt Stone & Trey Parker, and gone is the general trailer for the show.

All of the second series discs are therefore stripped of any bonus materials.

    Conclusion

More great episodes for your enjoyment.

"Chickenpox" features the very same medical condition, with the parents of our heroes exposing them to situations to try and get them infected. Once the boys realise this, they begin to plot revenge, involving a tootbrush and a local "lady of the night" amongst other things.

"Roger Ebert Should Lay Off the Fatty Foods" doesn`t feature a cameo from the man himself, but focuses on events at the Planetarium (watch the episode to learn the correct South Park pronunciation). Cartman also wins the chance to sing the Cheesey Poofs song for a TV advert. Some fantastically bizarre moments.

    "Clubhouses"

Whilst parents are divorcing, our heroes are trying to impress the ladies (and each other) by building clubhouses (kind of treehouses really). Some classic moments but not the greatest of episodes.

"Cow Days" features some cows, shenanigans, a fair, Terrance & Phillip dolls, a rodeo and some mild concussion which convinces Cartman that he is in fact an Eastern lady of the night. The weirdness involved here is only matched by some of the great jokes on offer.

Three good episodes and one weaker one still makes for a good disc.
